Humane Societies/Animal Rights Groups:

ASPCA The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals exists to promote humane principles, prevent cruelty, and alleviate fear, pain, and suffering in animals.

Farm Sanctuary A national, non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and protecting farm animals. It also campaigns to end abusive animal agricultural practices.

Lifesavers, Inc. Wild Horse Rescue Dedicated to saving abandoned, abused, neglected, and slaughter-bound mustangs.

Sanctuaries:

Best Friends The nation's largest sanctuary for abused and abandoned cats and dogs and other animals. The mission of Best Friends is to help bring about a time when there are no more homeless pets, and when every cat or dog who's ever born can be guaranteed a good home with a loving family.

Feral Cats:

Alley Cat Allies As the foremost experts on feral cats, Alley Cat Allies promotes nonlethal control for feral and stray cats with trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs that effectively reduce their population by sterilization — not euthanasia.

Feral Cat Coalition Based in San Diego, California. The web site has extensive information relating to feral cats.

The Gorilla Foundation Help Koko help to save her species.

IMOM (In Memory of Magic) The organization's mission: "Helping people help pets. To better the lives of sick, injured and abused companion animals. We are dedicated to insure that no companion animal has to be euthanized simply because their caretaker is financially challenged."

IPPL The International Primate Protection League, working since 1973 for the well-being of primates. IPPL's educational efforts have contributed to decisions by many countries to ban or restrict primate trade and to establish programs to protect primate habitat.

The Jane Goodall Institute The Jane Goodall Institute advances the power of individuals to take informed and compassionate action to improve the environment of all living things.

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International Dedicated to the conservation of gorillas and their habitats in Africa through anti-poaching, regular monitoring, research, education and support of local communities, The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International uniquely continues to promote the ideals and vision of Dr. Dian Fossey.

LPAG Laboratory Primate Advocacy Group The site's purpose is to expose the true reality of laboratory primates from the perspective of the people who know them best — their caregivers and research technicians. The intent is to reflect the primate's current status quo, including laboratory conditions, on-going behavioral and biomedical research, and efforts to abolish the use of nonhuman primates in invasive procedures.

Maddie's Fund Its purpose is to end the killing of adoptable (healthy) dogs and cats. It motivates communities to build broad-based alliances by financially supporting collaborative, comprehensive life-saving programs.

Pennies to Protect Police Dogs Raises funds to provide bullet-proof vests for police dogs. Started by a 10-year-old girl, the organization raised over $60,000 in less than one year.
